How Kelly Clarkson is helping her kids through the divorce: 'We want to do it right'

Kelly gets candid on how she's helping her kids get through the divorce

Kelly Clarkson isn’t shy about sharing her feelings about her divorce from Brandon Blackstock and the challenges her family has encountered.

Clarkson and Blackstock filed for divorce back in June after seven years of marriage together. The couple has two children together, their six-year-old daughter River Rose and four-year-old Remington Alexander.

At such a young age, it could be tough for her kids to understand and process the complexities of divorce. That’s why Clarkson is being proactive in making sure her kids have an outlet for help.

"We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists, 'cause we want to do it right," she said in an interview with ExtraTV. "I definitely want to do it right. Everyone’s sad, and it’s OK to be sad."

Kelly has already been transparent about the divorce and said “the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts."

Her latest comments fall in line with that belief, but she takes it a step further by hoping her transparency can eventually help others.

“I have a great family and friends that are there for me… It’s a very hard thing to navigate, to be able to be honest and share your story, so maybe you can help someone else, but at the same time protecting these little kids you adore,” she said.

Clarkson’s co-judge on The Voice, Gwen Stefani, has experienced a public divorce and has been there to support her throughout the process.

“You’re doing a really good job,” Gwen said. “I think it’s hard to be a public person. Now you add in a family… they didn’t choose it.”
