It’s day one of KMLE Country Thunder 2012 and the “kraziness” has already begun. Our listeners, fans, and twitter followers helped us have a record breaking Thursday attendance. It was definitely a great way to kick off KMLE Country Thunder and get a little “sideways” with AZ Native son, Dierks Bentley.

He wasn’t the only one out there performing for all the KMLE listeners… we have to let you in on a few of our exclusive interviews with Craig Morgan and the Eli Young Band.
David Dean talked with Craig Morgan about being on Conan O’Brien in LA , “I made sure to give a shout out about being here [KMLE Country Thunder].”  Morgan went on to say that  “these are the shows of our lives” in regards to the big music festivals. Last he made sure to sneak in a mention about one of the songs he was performing on stage, in honor of a charity called ‘Folds of Honor.’

The Eli Young Band talked with David Dean backstage. Frontman, Mike Eli, talked about expecting a little one on the way in August. Mike mentions about being a little nervous but overall excited. Although Eli goes on to mention his most nerve racking moment,“Playing the Grand Ole Opry for the first time was incredibly cool and nerve racking.” Then it was all about dishing out their favorite apps for their phone; the CatPaint… basically where you can add in a cat to a photo and of course Instagram. However; David Dean‘s favorite app is the Country Thunder app.  Oh and for all you KMLE listeners, David Dean made sure to request their new single “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” for the listeners.

Of course we couldn’t start KMLE Country Thunder off without native, Dierks Bentley. Bentley states, “This is one of the biggest shows of the year.” about Country Thunder, then continues saying, “The pressure is on with it being my hometown…it’s a big deal being here.” However; Dierks is excited to visit with his family and catch up with friends. Not only does he get to see his locals but also he has been watching all the bands play out here at Country Thunder; including, Eli Young Band who he is on tour with. Dierks also gives a little insight on his daughter, Evalyn, who sings in a video with him that leaked to YouTube, “It was the one and only time back in Nashville… it just came around.” Then he jokingly states, “I am trying to encourage her to go into radio.” Bentley’s focus wasn’t just on being out in Florence to perform, it was also about sports. He had much to say about hockey and his team the Coyotes. Being AZ’s native boy, Dierks also spoke of his song ‘Home’ in honor of Gabby Giffords and how Bono, being a big fan of country music, introduced Dierks at the ACMs this year.
